MIHC - FAQ

Who can play for McKinney Ice Hockey Club?

• MIHC serves MISD Zoned students in grades 9–12 for Varsity, and grades 7–10 for Junior Varsity, according to AT&T High School Hockey League rules. All public, private, charter, and homeschool students are welcome, provided they meet academic eligibility requirements.

Where are practices and games held?

• Practices take place at the Children’s Health StarCenter McKinney. Games are scheduled at rinks throughout the DFW Metroplex.

How do I register for MIHC?

• Registration is completed online via the MIHC website. Club dues are separate from AT&T High School Hockey League registration fees.

What does my player need for uniform/equipment?

• Uniform fittings occur every fall for new and returning players. Game uniforms can be purchased through Monkey Sports. New summer players purchase a practice jersey for use in that season.

What are Club Dues, and what do they cover?

• Club dues fund MIHC operations, the end-of-season banquet, awards, team-building activities, and special events such as Alumni Games, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Senior Night. Dues are separate from league registration.

Are there other costs besides club dues and league registration?

• Yes. Additional costs may include travel and lodging for tournaments and championships, coaches’ travel expenses, extra banquet tickets, and fees for optional tournaments not included in club dues.

How does MIHC communicate with families?

• Team Managers and coaches use the Crossbar Mobile App for team communication, calendar updates, and to track player availability.

How are team rosters managed?

• Team Managers, in coordination with the Head Coach, submit all rosters for approval per AT&T High School Hockey League and USA Hockey rules. Player selection for games and tournaments is the coach’s responsibility.

How are academic eligibility and grade checks handled?

• Grade checks occur several times each season, following MISD’s UIL calendar. All players (including homeschool, private, and charter) must comply. Ineligible players are reported using official forms. (Please not this follows UIL not the MISD Academic Calendar)

What safety protocols are in place?

• MIHC enforces all USA Hockey and league safety requirements—including certified neck guards, HECC helmet checks, concussion baseline testing, locker room supervision, and SafeSport compliance.

Are volunteer opportunities available?

• Yes! Volunteers are needed for team managers, photographers, water bottle duty, locker room monitoring, social media, and more. The Vice President, JV & Varsity Representatives, and Team Managers coordinate all volunteer roles.

How is team photography managed?

• Photographers work with the Team Manager to upload and organize photos on the MIHC SharePoint site for season-long use and year-end events.
