Locker Room Policy

Locker Room Policy

In accordance with USA Hockey’s SafeSport Program

At McKinney Ice Hockey Club, the safety, well-being, and privacy of our players are of the utmost importance. In compliance with USA Hockey’s SafeSport Program—which aims to protect participants from abuse, misconduct, and inappropriate behavior—this Locker Room Policy has been developed to promote a safe and respectful environment for all athletes, coaches, and families.

1. Locker Room Access & Monitoring

McKinney Ice Hockey Club strives to provide supervision of locker room areas during all team activities. Access to locker rooms is limited to team personnel, rostered players, and approved individuals. Locker rooms will be monitored by screened and trained adults (coaches, SafeSport-compliant team officials, or designated locker room monitors) either inside or positioned directly outside of the door.

2. Locker Room Safety & Personal Belongings

McKinney Ice Hockey Club is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Players and participants should refrain from bringing valuables into the locker room and are encouraged to secure belongings wherever possible. All individuals using locker room facilities accept the inherent risks associated with leaving items unattended.

Suspicious activity or concerns about locker room safety should be reported immediately to a coach or club official for proper investigation.

3. Parental Access

To protect privacy and promote player independence, parents are generally discouraged from entering locker rooms. However, limited exceptions may be made for younger players or in situations requiring equipment assistance, medical issues, or other team-related needs.

Any parental presence inside the locker room must be approved by a coach or team official and must comply with SafeSport protocols, including the two-adult rule where applicable.

4. Mixed-Gender Teams

When a team includes both male and female players, McKinney Ice Hockey Club is committed to ensuring appropriate privacy:

  • When available, separate locker rooms or staggered changing times will be provided.

  • If only one locker room is available, girls and boys will dress at separate times.

  • All discussions and meetings involving the full team will be conducted after all players are fully dressed and in compliance with SafeSport guidelines.

5. Prohibited Use of Phones and Recording Devices

Per USA Hockey’s Locker Room Policy, the use of mobile phones, cameras, video recording devices, and other portable electronics is strictly prohibited in locker rooms, restrooms, and changing areas. This policy is designed to protect athlete privacy and prevent improper conduct.

All phones and electronic devices must remain powered off and stored in players’ bags while in the locker room. Use of such devices is only permitted outside of the locker room area.

To support compliance, team managers or designated personnel may collect and hold phones before locker room entry. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action in accordance with SafeSport and team conduct guidelines.

6. Zero Tolerance for Misconduct

All forms of abuse, bullying, hazing, harassment, and retaliation are strictly prohibited by McKinney Ice Hockey Club and USA Hockey. Any incident or suspicion of misconduct—whether inside or outside the locker room—must be reported immediately to a coach, team official, Club SafeSport Coordinator, or directly to USA Hockey SafeSport.

Our club fully supports any individual who comes forward in good faith and will ensure a prompt and confidential response under SafeSport protocols.
