MIHC & USA Hockey Background Screening Policy

In compliance with requirements from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), USA Hockey has implemented a national-level background screening policy

Background Screening Policy
McKinney Ice Hockey Club Background Screening Policy
1. Purpose
The McKinney Ice Hockey Club is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all participants, particularly minors. As part of our commitment to safety and child protection, we have established this Background Screening Policy to ensure that all individuals who have regular contact with minors undergo background checks to identify any history of criminal behavior or misconduct that could pose a risk to participants.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all coaches, officials, volunteers, and any other individuals who have regular contact with minors through their involvement with the McKinney Ice Hockey Club. It is mandatory for all covered individuals to undergo background screening as a condition of their participation in club activities.
3. Background Screening Process
- Initial Screening: All covered individuals are required to undergo an initial background screening process before they can begin their involvement with the McKinney Ice Hockey Club. The screening will be conducted by a third-party provider authorized by USA Hockey to perform background checks.
- Ongoing Screening: In addition to the initial screening, covered individuals will be subject to periodic background checks at regular intervals as determined by the McKinney Ice Hockey Club. This ongoing screening helps ensure that individuals remain in good standing and continue to meet the club's safety standards.
4. Screening Criteria
The background screening will include checks for criminal records, sex offender registries, and any other relevant databases to identify potential risks to minors. Individuals with certain disqualifying offenses or convictions will not be permitted to participate in club activities involving minors, in accordance with USA Hockey guidelines.
5. Confidentiality and Privacy
The McKinney Ice Hockey Club is committed to maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals undergoing background screening. Information obtained through the screening process will be kept confidential and will only be shared with authorized individuals involved in the screening process. Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
6. Compliance and Consequences
Compliance with this Background Screening Policy is mandatory for all covered individuals. Failure to undergo background screening or the presence of disqualifying offenses may result in the individual being prohibited from participating in club activities involving minors. The McKinney Ice Hockey Club reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary action against individuals who fail to comply with this policy.
7. Review and Updates
This Background Screening Policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with USA Hockey guidelines and any changes in regulations or best practices.
8. Conclusion
The McKinney Ice Hockey Club is dedicated to creating a safe and positive environment for all participants, especially minors. By implementing this Background Screening Policy, we aim to mitigate potential risks and ensure the well-being of our athletes. We appreciate the cooperation and support of all individuals involved in helping us maintain the highest standards of safety and protection.
