What is Impact Testing For Parents Document

Statement from McKinney Ice Hockey Club

The McKinney Ice Hockey Club is committed to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all its participants. As part of this commitment, the Club has implemented a Concussion Management Policy to promote the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and appropriate management of concussions and other head injuries.

For the 2026–2027 season, this policy is administered in accordance with the requirements and guidelines of the Texas Scholastic Hockey League (TSHL) and applies to all players registered with the McKinney Ice Hockey Club who participate in TSHL-sanctioned activities.

The Club will work collaboratively with coaches, team personnel, parents/guardians, athletes, medical professionals, and the Texas Scholastic Hockey League to ensure that suspected concussions are promptly identified and appropriately managed. The health and safety of the athlete will remain the highest priority, and no player suspected of sustaining a concussion will be permitted to return to play until the applicable evaluation and return-to-play requirements have been satisfied.

Baseline Testing:

The McKinney Ice Hockey Club has purchased ImPACT baseline concussion testing for all athletes participating during the 2026–2027 season.

Baseline testing will be conducted using the ImPACT concussion assessment platform provided by ImPACT Applications, Inc. ImPACT is designed to establish an individual baseline that may assist qualified healthcare professionals in evaluating an athlete following a suspected concussion.

All baseline testing must be completed in a quiet, distraction-free environment to help ensure the athlete is able to give their full attention to the assessment and to support accurate and reliable baseline results.

Players are required to complete baseline testing in accordance with the testing schedule established by the McKinney Ice Hockey Club and the Texas Scholastic Hockey League. A retest is required every two years. All players are required to complete baseline testing since this is an entirely new vendor and we are no longer using Baylor Scott & White.

TESTING IS MANDATORY FOR ALL PLAYERS.

The program is new for the 2026-2027 Season.

Concussion Protocol

Parents just need to note these steps

  • Athlete is deemed out by the athletic trainer and turns in a concussion log form

  • Parent needs to take athlete and the clearance form to doctor of their choice (only non-accepted are ER docs and chiropractors)

  • If the doctor does NOT diagnose a concussion the form is sent back to safety@mckinneyicehockey.org with the first box checked and the doctor's signature and clinic stamp

  • If the doctor does diagnose with a concussion the athlete is out until a follow up appointment where the doctor says they are “Clear to start return to play”
  • This does not mean they go immediately back to playing
  • They then need to perform the 5-step return to play activities with no symptoms and initialed by a coach, parent or medical professional. The steps cannot be combined into more than one day

  • Once the RTP steps are complete the clearance form needs to be completely filled out and signed by the doctor with the actual clearance date and sent back to safety@mckinneyicehockey.org
