McKinney Ice Hockey Club (MIHC) is proud to offer a competitive, community-focused high school hockey program serving players from across the McKinney Independent School District. Our teams have a proven tradition of excellence on and off the ice, including multiple state championship wins and a strong commitment to player development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Grades & Eligbility

  • Varsity Eligibility: Students in grades 9–12.


  • Junior Varsity Eligibility: Students in grades 9–10 only.
  • 7th & 8th graders (cannot play Varsity).
  • 11th & 12th graders (cannot play JV).


All players must meet league academic requirements and complete grade checks each season, regardless of school type (public, private, charter, homeschool).

When

  • Fall Season: The AT&T High School Hockey League regular (fall) season typically starts in mid-to-late September and ends with playoffs in late February or early March.
  • Tryouts in July


  • Summer Season: The summer league usually begins in early May and ends with championships by early August each year.
  • Tryouts in April

Where

Games are scheduled at ice rinks and venues throughout the DFW Metroplex to provide competitive opportunities across the region

Practices

When are practices and how often are they?

Teams practice 1 practice per week on average. Some variability in the schedule is expected.

The league minimum is 18 hours of practice ice time per team.

Games

How many games will they play? What days of the week?

Teams will play 18 regular seasons games over the course of the season and will usually fall on the weekends for Junior Varsity & Wednesdays for Varsity Teams.

Uniforms

Uniform fittings for all new and returning players take place once a year during the fall season at tryouts, with game uniforms available for purchase through our official partner, Monkey Sports.

Players joining for the summer season will purchase a practice jersey to use during summer play.

All Uniform Orders Must be completed by the Deadline.

Club Dues

McKinney Ice Hockey Club dues are separate from the AT&T High School Hockey League registration fees. Club dues directly support the operation of MIHC and fund important activities throughout the season, including:

  • Day-to-day club operations and administration
  • State Tournament Fees
  • Medical supplies
  • Game & training equipment
  • Technology costs
  • End-of-season banquet and player awards
  • Each player receives 1 ticket as part of their club dues.
  • Team-building activities and special events
  • Alumni Games, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events
  • Senior Night recognition


These dues ensure we can provide a high-quality experience for all players, both on and off the ice.

Additional Costs

In addition to Club Dues and AT&T High School Hockey League registration fees, families should be aware of other potential expenses that may arise during the season. These costs are not included in the standard club fees and will be assessed as needed:


  • National Championship Expenses: Costs related to team travel, lodging, meals, and fees for teams that qualify for national championships.


  • Additional Banquet Tickets : The cost of any extra banquet tickets beyond those included for players.


  • Optional Tournaments – If the team elects to participate in additional high school hockey tournaments—either local or national—those entry fees and related travel expenses will be determined and assessed separately.


These additional fees will be communicated in advance and are collected only when applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can play for McKinney Ice Hockey Club?

• MIHC serves MISD Zoned students in grades 9–12 for Varsity, and grades 7–10 for Junior Varsity, according to AT&T High School Hockey League rules. All public, private, charter, and homeschool students are welcome, provided they meet academic eligibility requirements.

Where are practices and games held?

• Practices take place at the Children’s Health StarCenter McKinney. Games are scheduled at rinks throughout the DFW Metroplex.

How do I register for MIHC?

• Registration is completed online via the MIHC website. Club dues are separate from AT&T High School Hockey League registration fees.

What does my player need for uniform/equipment?

• Uniform fittings occur every fall for new and returning players. Game uniforms can be purchased through Monkey Sports. New summer players purchase a practice jersey for use in that season.

What are Club Dues, and what do they cover?

• Club dues fund MIHC operations, the end-of-season banquet, awards, team-building activities, and special events such as Alumni Games, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Senior Night. Dues are separate from league registration.

Are there other costs besides club dues and league registration?

• Yes. Additional costs may include travel and lodging for tournaments and championships, coaches’ travel expenses, extra banquet tickets, and fees for optional tournaments not included in club dues.

How does MIHC communicate with families?

• Team Managers and coaches use the Crossbar Mobile App for team communication, calendar updates, and to track player availability.

How are team rosters managed?

• Team Managers, in coordination with the Head Coach, submit all rosters for approval per AT&T High School Hockey League and USA Hockey rules. Player selection for games and tournaments is the coach’s responsibility.

How are academic eligibility and grade checks handled?

• Grade checks occur several times each season, following MISD’s UIL calendar. All players (including homeschool, private, and charter) must comply. Ineligible players are reported using official forms. (Please note this follows UIL not the MISD Academic Calendar)

What safety protocols are in place?

• MIHC enforces all USA Hockey and league safety requirements—including certified neck guards, HECC helmet checks, concussion baseline testing, locker room supervision, and SafeSport compliance.

Are volunteer opportunities available?

• Yes! Volunteers are needed for team managers, photographers, water bottle duty, locker room monitoring, social media, and more. The Vice President, JV & Varsity Representatives, and Team Managers coordinate all volunteer roles.

How is team photography managed?

• Photographers work with the Team Manager to upload and organize photos on the MIHC SharePoint site for season-long use and year-end events.

Thank you for joining the excitement and tradition of McKinney Ice Hockey Club! Registration for the 2025–2026 Fall/Winter season is now open to students attending McKinney ISD high schools and middle schools who have been offered roster spots.

Whether you’re competing at the Varsity or Junior Varsity level, we are excited to see you on the ice this season, develop your skills, and represent your school in Texas’s most successful high school hockey program.
